Description
This tour was the highlight of our Alaskan cruise! THe view is looking down at a beautiful blue glacier bottom of this image.
We took a Temsco helicopter tour in Skagway Alaska that flew us directly to the Glacier where the helicopter landed. The pilot was also the guide on the glacier and explains all the in's and outs of the glacier, its movement, the underground cisterns that develop. It was well organized, they give you a safety briefing, then they suit you up with a special floatation vest, and then finally they fit you with special boots that go directly over your shoes. This was a once in a lifetime experience and standing directly on the glacier makes you feel like the size of an ant. The deeper the ice on the glacier the more aqua blue it is and you can hear the rushing of the massive water deep in the cisterns.
This particular glacier was about 800 feet in depth.
